n late 2024, NTT completed an experiment in Shimane Prefecture: a drone ascended to an altitude of 300 meters and was electrified, successfully triggering lightning strikes. This technology can be used for precise lightning induction in thunderstorm zones, disaster early warning, and power facility protection. The drone’s lightning protection cage remained stable and operational even after being struck by lightning.
